Lent Plastic Challenge Week 7

Lent Plastic Challenge – Week 7: travel

We all know that caring for the environment isn’t restricted to the home; travel has a lot of implications, some of which are outside our day-to-day influence. We cannot control the carbon emissions of the planes we fly in, the chemicals used by the hotels in which we stay, or the plastics used in the souvenirs sold in the destinations we visit.  But there are many things we can control.  We can choose to walk, cycle or use public transport rather than the car.  We can think about taking our own toiletries, rather than using the hotel’s mini plastic containers.  We can avoid bottled water, taking a reusable water bottle with a filter if we don’t trust the local water. We can avoid asking for clean towels every day.  We can pack less.  We can eat locally sourced food.  There are lots of ways we can follow Paco’s 4 principles of Recycle,Refuse, Reduceand Reuse when we are travelling.

We are keen to hear about your experiences, good and bad, during the challenge and, more importantly, about what changes you have made, not just for Lent, but for the future.  Finally, don’t forgot to pay a visit to our Lent Plastic Challenge display. See you there over a coffee! If you’d like to share your thoughts about the challenge or need further information please speak to Emma Cross: emmarcross@hotmail.com or 01491 837815.

Please also visit our regularly changing display material in church for ideas and to share your experience of reducing your impact on God’s creation during Lent. Keep an eye out on Facebook and Twitter too!
